Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 2 West Chester Downs Kutztown to Remain Unbeaten

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) and Kaitlyn Haughey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) scored for West Chester to extend its undefeated season to 15-0, 14-0 after a 2-0 win against Kutztown (8-4-3, 7-4-3) on Saturday afternoon.

"I thought we had some great moments of soccer today and got some great combo play for a few of our players to earn the win today," began head coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley. "I am very happy and excited for these players with the season they are having this year. I think they are in a great place with team chemistry and have great energy and we have seen so many players come up big for us when we have needed them to this year."

Coming off their victory over Shepherd to clinch their 2022 PSAC East title, the Golden Rams came to Rockwell Field with a dominating tone to start the match when Matter took a pass from Jacqueline Hug (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) to put West Chester on the board 1-0 in the 10th minute of action.

"Taking an early lead is big, it gives us great security as well as flexibility to take some chances and do some different things, which can lead to additional goals for us," explained Kempf-Townsley.

The Golden Bears fought back taking seven shots on West Chester goalie, Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), in the first 45, but that wasn't enough to stop the Golden Rams' 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Eight minutes into the second half, Haughey finished off another assist from Hug to double West Chester's lead to 2-0, which would eventually give the Golden Rams their 15th win this season.

The remainder of the match resulted in a steady trade of possession, but West Chester's unshakeable offense would not relinquish to Kutztown, outshooting the Golden Bears 11-4 and taking a lead in corners 5-1 in the second half, ending the game with a 14-11 lead in shots and a 6-2 lead in corner kicks.

McGee made a total of eight saves in the match and Kutztown goalie, Emme Wolfel, made four of her own for Kutztown.
UP NEXT: The women will be back in action for their second meetup of the season with Millersville on Wednesday, Oct. 26th at 2:30 p.m. on the Marauders' home turf.
