Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 5 West Chester Rolls Past Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.-Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) opened the scoring late in the first half and provided an assist on the fifth-ranked Golden Rams second goal of the game as the West Chester women's soccer team (11-0-0, 10-0-0) cruised past Shippensburg (3-5-3, 3-4-3) by a final of 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester dominated possession throughout the contest, ending the game with a 32-4 advantage in shots and a 15-1 lead in shots on goal while also ending the game with an 8-1 lead in corner kicks.

West Chester opened the game, applying consistent pressure to the Shippensburg defense, taking nine shots including four shots on goal against Morgan Molyneaux and the Raider defense through the first 30 minutes of action.

West Chester's early pressure paid dividends a few minutes later when Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) scored her fourth goal of the season with a shot from a long way out, which cleared Molyneaux before bouncing off the crossbar and in, giving the Purple and Gold a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

Jaqueline Hug (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) doubled the lead early in the second half off a cross into the box from Matter, notching her fourth goal of the season as well to give the visiting Golden Rams a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

In the 56th minute, Lauren Corless (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) threatened to make it a three-goal lead for the Golden Rams but Molyneaux was equal to the task making her seventh save of the afternoon to keep it a two-goal game.

In the 77th minute, Kaitlynn Haughey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) extended the lead to 3-0 before fellow Penn Charter alum Antonia Linus (Huntington Valley, Pa./Penn Charter) added a goal of her own in the 87th minute off an assist from Julia Raybold (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) to give West Chester a commanding 4-0 lead.

Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had a relatively quiet day in goal, making just one save to earn her second consecutive shutout while her counterpart made 15 big saves in an attempt slow the West Chester offense.
