EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – East Stroudsburg's Olivia Breen scored off a penalty corner with 4:56 left in overtime lifting the host Warriors to a 2-1 victory over visiting West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinal at Whitenight Field Tuesday afternoon.
East Stroudsburg (16-2) advances to the PSAC Semifinals and a date with regular-season champion Kutztown on Friday. West Chester falls to 14-4 with the loss.
Valerie van Kuijck (Denbosch, The Netherlands) put the Golden Rams on top in the first quarter with a lazer inside the far post from the top of the circle following a penalty corner. Her first attempt off the corner was blocked, but came right back to the dangerous midfielder. She wound up again and blasted a shot past ESU goalkeeper Amy Supey with just four seconds left in the opening quarter. That's the way things stayed until the fourth quarter.
East Stroudsburg picked up the equalizer with 10 minutes left in the game off a penalty corner. Morgan Mesenbrink tipped in a shot from Madison Kline to tie the game at 1-apiece. That's the way regulation ended. The Warriors did have a penalty corner opportunity with 22 seconds left, but a shot from the top of the circle just went wide.
Breen converted the third penalty corner opportunity for ESU in the overtime period.
Tess Garchinsky (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) made two saves in the cage for West Chester. Supey was credited with six saves for East Stroudsburg.
