West Chester Pulls Away From Millersville in Second Half, 18-7

WEST CHESTER, PA - Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored five goals, and Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) finished with nine points, as seventh-ranked West Chester University rode a big second half en route to an 18-7 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory at Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester (10-1, 7-1 PSAC East) outscored Millersville (8-5, 4-4) by a 10-3 margin in the final 30 minutes to pull away from the Marauders.

Monigle teamed up with Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) in the third quarter to apply the pressure. Stanislawczyk, who scored four goals in the win, posted a natural hat trick in under four minutes of the third while Monigle (3G, 6A) scored twice and assisted on two others. By the time the dust had settled from that onslaught, West Chester held a 12-4 advantage. Barnett and Monigle scored again, following a tally from Millersville that ended a scoring drought that approached 17 minutes.

Grace Frasso (Cinniminson, N.J./Cinniminson) posted career highs with six ground balls and seven caused turnovers to lead the defensive effort. As a result, West Chester held a decided advantage in ground balls, 27-11, while Millersville committed 22 turnovers.

Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) was credited with four saves to pick up her sixth win of the season without a loss.

West Chester travels to East Stroudsburg on Saturday to take on the Warriors.
