West Chester Men Tie for Second At Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational

Team Leaderboard
Player Leaderboard

WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester carded a season-low 296 on Tuesday in the second round of the 12th Annual Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational on its home course at Penn Oaks Golf Club, but it was not enough to overtake Indiana (Pa.), which won its record seventh team title.

The Golden Rams' overall score of 603 set a new personal record on its home course in the Cottrell Invitational, breaking the old mark of 605 set in 2015 when they walked away with the team title. West Chester also tied a personal tournament record with its 296 in the second round, equaling the team's effort in the second round of the Cottrell Invitational in 2018. As a result, WCU tied Goldey-Beacom for second place in the team standings.

Chris Warner (Medford, Pa./Shawnee) tied for third on the individual leaderboard with Goldey-Beacom's Camilo Samur. Both scored a 4-over 146 for the 36-hole event. Samur shot a 67 on day two, moving up 23 places. His 67 also set a tournament record for a low round. He is just the fourth golfer in the 12-year history of the tournament to score in the 60s in a round.

Jacob Sokalsky (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) eagled the 12th hole on Tuesday, along with IUP individual winner Jackson Buccigross. Adam MacMillon (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) had eagled that same hole on Monday. Those were the only three eagles in the tournament.

West Chester heads to the NCAA Preview Tournament in Victor, N.Y., next week hosted by LeMoyne College. The 2022 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional will be held on that course next month.
