St. Thomas Aquinas continues to lead at the end of the second day of play, holding a four-stroke (586-590) lead over the second-place team in Southern New Hampshire, while West Chester is just four strokes out of fifth place, entering the third and final day of play on Saturday afternoon. Among PSAC teams, West Chester currently sits third, just one stroke beyond Pitt-Johnstown, who is tied for sixth with host LeMoyne and four strokes back of fifth-place Gannon.
Chris Warner (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made the biggest moves of any of the Golden Rams and is tied with three other golfers as one of the biggest movers of the second round, climbing 47 spots after firing a one-under 71 after registering a birdie on three of the final four holes including the par-five 18th to catapult himself into a tie for 20th at +4 for the Tournament.
After finding himself among the Tournament leaders for much of the first round yesterday and residing in a tie for second entering the second round, Brock Fassnacht (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) had a more challenging day on Friday as the scoring conditions grew more challenging for the entire field as the day progressed, ending his day with a five-over-par round to fall to +3 and a tie for 15th entering the third day of the Tournament. Fassnacht turned at two over par but bogeyed each of the first three holes of the back nine and four of the first five before registering a birdie on 18 to sign for a five-over 77 in the second round.
Jacob Sokalsky (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) had a similar day on Friday to his opening round on Thursday, finishing with a 75 to hold steady in 28th at +5 for the Tournament.
Connor Strine (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Austin Schreffler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) () each shot two strokes better in round two, as Strine signed for a 76 (+4) to move to +10 on the Tournament, which places him in a tie for 63rd entering Saturday's final round while Schreffler shot a 77 (+5) to go to +12 over for the Tournament, which places him in a tie for 82nd entering the final round.
West Chester has continued its climb up the leaderboard thanks in large part to its efforts on Ravenwood's four par threes, which have played as some of the hardest holes on the golf course over the first two days. West Chester is fourth in the field in scoring average on these four holes with an average of 3.30 (+12) over the first two days, which is just two strokes and 0.05 behind Post, who leads the field in this category at 3.25 (+10). West Chester is also tied for third in the field in birdies after the first 36 holes, registering 26 over the first two days, which is just three back of St. Thomas Aquinas, who is leading the field with its two-day score of 586.
