Jaszczak's Two Goals Propel No. 1 West Chester to 4-1 Triumph Over No. 8 IUP

WEST CHESTER, PA - Sr., F Claudia Jaszczak (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) scored two goals, and Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) and Olivia Quagliero (South Hampton, N.J./Seneca) each added a tally, as top-ranked West Chester pulled away from a determined Indiana (Pa.) squad to pick up a 4-1 non-conference victory under the lights at Vonnie Gros Field Tuesday evening.

West Chester (6-0) remained unbeaten on the year while delivering IUP (3-1) its first setback of the fall.

The Golden Rams got on the board first with Jaszczak's first marker of the night a little over five minutes into the game. West Chester is accustomed to scoring early and often to put opponents in a hole quickly. However, IUP evened things up a minute later and then frustrated the hosts, who could not get anything going through the midfield in its transition game the rest of the first half. As a result, the Crimson Hawks were locked in a 1-1 tie with the Golden Rams at the break.

West Chester finally got its offense going in the third quarter when Wolfe roofed a shot that hit the crossbar and deflected down over the goal line midway through the quarter to put the Rams on top 2-1. Jaszczak added her second of the night and team-leading seventh of the season with 3:46 to play in the third giving West Chester a little breathing room with a 3-1 advantage heading into the fourth. Quagliero tapped in a cross from Cameron Smith (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) in the fourth to salt away the contest.

Megan Gula (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made one save, picking up her sixth win of the season. She saw her consecutive scoreless minutes streak come to a close at exactly 188 minutes when IUP tied the game in the first quarter.

West Chester will be back in action at Vonnie Gros Field on October 1 for its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener against Kutztown at 1 p.m.
