Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw vs Millersville

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Ryan Keenan (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) scored an early second half goal off an assist from Jason Goldfeder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) to erase a first-half deficit as West Chester (7-1-1, 4-0-1) played to a 1-1 draw vs Millersville (4-1-4, 2-0-3) on Rockwell field Saturday afternoon.

West Chester applied early pressure to the Millersville defense but it was the Marauders who struck first, scoring the first goal of the contest in the 15th minute when Matthew Lynch got in behind the Golden Ram defense and buried a shot past a diving Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) to give Millersville an early 1-0 lead.

Just five minutes later, West Chester threatened to even the score at 1-1 but a shot by Kendall Walkes (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was saved by Millersville keeper Bobby Bosch to keep the Golden Rams off the scoreboard.

Later in the first half, West Chester generated a pair of good chances in the 40th and 42nd minutes but Bosch stood tall between the pipes to keep West Chester off the scoreboard heading into the halftime break.

After a late first half red card for the Marauders following a high kick on Andrew Markopoulos (Drexel Hill, Pa./Msgr. Bonner) West Chester wasted little time in capitalizing on the depleted Marauder defense in the second half.

In the 59th minute, Goldfeder took a run down the far sideline and sent a strong cross into the box, which crossed through a sea of Marauder defenders to the waiting foot of Keenan who buried it into the near corner past Bosch to even the score at 1-1.

Throughout the balance of the contest, West Chester and Millersville traded looks and Good made a stellar save, punching a shot over the bar in the 71st minute to keep Millersville off the scoreboard as West Chester held on for a hard-fought draw.

Millersville ended the game with a 15-12 advantage in shots, although it was West Chester who ended the contest with a 10-7 lead in shots on goal while also ending the game with a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

In between the pipes, Good played well making six big saves for the Golden Rams to help the Purple and Gold earn the draw while his counterpart Bosch played a tremendous game, making nine stellar saves to slow the West Chester offense, which had previously cemented its spot as one of the most potent attacks in the PSAC East entering the weekend.
