EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- Jacqueline Hug (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) had a big night for West Chester, providing an assist on the tying goal in the first half before scoring the eventual game-winner as No. 5 West Chester (8-0-0, 7-0-0) used a balance attack with four different Golden Rams finding the back of the net to roll to a 4-1 road victory over East Stroudsburg (5-2-2, 3-2-2) on the road on Saturday night.
East Stroudsburg scored the first goal of the contest in the 15
th minute to take an early 10- lead. West Chester did not trail for long as
Nicolette Harrison found the back of the net thanks to a perfectly-timed assist across the box from
Jaqueline Hug (West Chester, Pa./Unionville).
Late in the first half, West Chester saw its consistent pressure on the Warrior defense pay dividends as Hug scored a goal of her own, her second of the year, off an assist from
Victoria Pungello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) to give the Golden Rams a 2-1 lead heading into the halftime break.
At the break, West Chester held an impressive 16-8 lead in shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal to go along with a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
West Chester wasted little time in opening the second half scoring when
Katelyn Haughey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) connected from almost 30 yards out to give West Chester a commanding 3-1 lead with just under 35 minutes to play in regulation.
Emily DeLuisi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) got in on the goal scoring for West Chester later in the half, shooting from nearly the same spot as Haughey to give the Purple and Gold a decisive 4-1 lead entering the final 20 minutes of regulation.
Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) played well in goal throughout the night, ending her evening with nine saves along with a number of strong plays coming off her line to halt Warrior corner and free kick opportunities. For ESU, Emmy Clarkson put forth a valiant effort, making seven saves in an attempt limit the potent Golden Ram offense.
West Chester ended the contest with a 28-19 lead in shots and an 11-10 advantage in shots on goal while tying with ESU in corner kicks with four corners each in the PSAC East triumph.
