WEST CHESTER, PA - Tenth-ranked Millersville scored a goal in the second quarter and made that stand up as the Marauders shut out No. 4 West Chester, 1-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey contest at Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (8-4, 3-2 PSAC) could not muster much offense all day against Millersville (9-4, 3-3). Shots were low for both teams and play in the midfield was what won possessions.
Millersville's Emma Ruley scored her third goal of the year in the 26th minute, and that was all the Marauders needed to pick up a much-needed conference win.
West Chester missed a penalty shot in first quarter and then was denied on a nice kick save from Millersville's goalkeeper, Kersten Koons late in the game for its two best scoring opportunities.
Emerie Loftis (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal) made one save in the loss. Koons made three saves for the visitors.
West Chester hosts Indiana (Pa.) University on Saturday at 4 p.m. It will be Senior Day at Vonnie Gros Field.
