NEW YORK, N.Y.- The West Chester University women's swimming and diving team returned to the pool on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet against New York University (NYU) inside the Palladium Athletic Facility at NYU. Competing for the second time in 2023-24, West Chester fell to its hosts by a 197-103 final on the road on Saturday afternoon.
West Chester started its day with a victory in the 200-medley relay as the foursome of
Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity), McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County), Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), and Sam Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) combined to touch the wall in 1 minute and 47.20 seconds.
After anchoring the win in the 200-medley relay, Trumble followed this up with a pair of second-place finishes in 50 and 100 free, touching the wall in 24.50 and 53.67 seconds, respectively. Trumble was one of a pair of Golden Rams in the top three of the 50 free as Hemingway finished third, touching the wall in a time of 24.76 seconds.
DiCarlo also had a busy afternoon in the pool, serving as a member of the 200-medley relay squad, before finishing second in the 100 back with a time of 58.19 seconds to lead the Golden Rams in this event.
Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College) was a double-winner for West Chester on Saturday afternoon, capturing the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.50 before winning the 200 in 2:23.09. Koehle also posted a new season best in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:13.41.
Sophie Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley) also picked up a victory for West Chester in the 1000-free, finishing in a time of 10:34.74. Newcomer
Alexandra DeFrehn (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview) captured a win of her own in the 200 breaststroke with a new season-best time of 2:07.64.
West Chester also finished second in the 400 free relay as the foursome of Kil,
Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Hemingway, and Trumble touched the wall in 3:34.45.
