West Chester Women Drop Tight Meet With Lehigh, 138-103

MEET RESULTS

BETHLEHEM, PA
– West Chester took first place in four of 13 events Friday, but host Lehigh proved to be too strong for the Golden Rams in coming away with a 138-103 non-league women's swimming & diving meet victory inside Jacobs Pool.

West Chester (2-2) won four individual events against Lehigh (1-1). But, the Mountain Hawks avenged a loss to the Golden Rams last fall with its first victory of the new year.

Sophia Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley Area) won the 1650-yard freestyle and placed second in the 200 butterfly for West Chester. Teammate Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) turned that same trick winning the 50 free and placing second in the 100 free. Samantha Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) posted a pair of third-place showings in those two events as well.

West Chester actually went second, third and fourth in the 200 fly with Mallory Pardoe (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) and Amy Masciulli (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) third and fourth, respectively.

Freshman Alexandra Defrehn (Mullica Hill, Pa./Clearview Regional) won the 200 backstroke while Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) won the 200 breaststroke.

Alicia McHugh (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) finished third off the 3-meter springboard and placed fourth off the 1m. Evie Altland (Middletown, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) was runner-up off the 1m board.

West Chester travels to Bloomsburg next Friday, before it begins training for the Total Performance Invitational in November that will give the team its first indication of where the Golden Rams stand in their preparation for the conference meet and nationals.
