SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V.- The West Chester University women's soccer team (11-3-3, 11-3-2) wrapped up its regular season on Friday afternoon with a scoreless draw against PSAC East foe Shepherd (7-5-6, 5-5-6).
While Friday afternoon's game was scoreless, West Chester applied no shortage of pressure to the Shepherd defense, ending the contest with an 18-10 lead in shots, a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-0 lead in corners.
The two sides played a close first half, with both teams taking two shots on goal, although the visiting Golden Rams carried a slim 6-4 lead in shots overall into the halftime break.
During the second half, West Chester upped its pressure substantially, ending the half with a 12-6 lead in shots and a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal, including a mid-half flurry, which saw the Golden Rams get a pair of corners and take four shots in four minutes from the 54
th to the 58
th minute.
Goalkeeping was the big storyline on Friday afternoon as
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made three stops for West Chester, while Alayna Burgamy made five big saves for Shepherd to keep the high-powered Golden Ram offense off the scoreboard in the regular-season finale for both teams.
