BELMONT, NC –
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) scored a season-high six goals, and
Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) recorded six points, to lead No. 3 West Chester to a 19-6 victory over host Belmont Abbey Saturday afternoon in a non-league women's lacrosse match at Alumni Field.
West Chester (4-0) answered a three-goal run by Belmont Abbey (4-3) in the second quarter by scoring 10 of the last 12 goals of the game to walk away with the win. A timeout from West Chester head coach
Ginny Martino righted the ship for the Golden Rams and the rest was history.
Monigle's woman up goal in the second quarter halted the Crusaders' run and ignited a six-goal spurt by the Golden Rams. Stanislawczyk notched two of her game-high six in that span while Monigle added her other goal. Monigle finished with two goals and four assists on the day.
Belmont Abbey could never get much momentum in the contest due to 26 turnovers and just 9 of 15 on clears. West Chester held a decided advantage in groundballs (33-22) and was perfect on clears in the second half.
Stanislawczyk added four ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls to her scoring totals. Sophomore midfielder,
Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) registered a hat trick and added an assist. She also had five ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Brenna Smith (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington),
Lila McMahon-Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and
Helen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) each scored a pair of goals. Freshman defender
Natalie Goldsmith (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) grabbed a season-high six ground balls defensively.
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made nine saves in the cage to improve to 4-0 on the year.
Michelle Guppy made nine saves for Belmont Abbey in 55 minutes of play. Summer Eddinger made one save in the final five minutes.
West Chester returns home next Wednesday when it welcomes No. 5 LeMoyne to Vonnie Gros Field at 4 p.m.
