WEST CHESTER, Pa.-Following an important split with East Stroudsburg yesterday afternoon, West Chester (33-13, 22-4) returned to action on Saturday afternoon looking to complete the season sweep of Bloomsburg (17-29, 11-14). West Chester put together a pair of great offensive performances this afternoon, rolling past its visitors by a final of 8-0 in game one and 10-1 in game two, with both games ending in five innings.
Game One: WCU 8 Bloomsburg 0 (5 Innings)
West Chester loaded the bases in the second inning but Bloomsburg tight-roped out of danger to keep the game scoreless heading into the third.
West Chester loaded the bases again in the third and took the first lead of the game on an RBI single through the left side by
Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest), which also kept the bases loaded with no outs. Bloomsburg worked out of the jam without any further damage, trailing 1-0 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, West Chester exploded for six runs on seven hits and one error, including a series of RBI singles by
Haleigh Karcher (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), Meg Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove), Olivia Mock (Clifton, Va./Paul V), and Cyd Keidaisch (Pottstown, Pa./Boyertown).
With a 7-0 lead heading into the fifth, West Chester delivered a quick 1,2,3 inning, ending it with a strikeout to carry the seven-run lead into the home half.
In the home fifth, West Chester got four straight singles to open the inning, including another RBI single by Wolfe to end the game with a 8-0 win for the Golden Rams.
Danielle Ciliberto (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) was dominant in the circle for her 13
th (13-3) win of the year, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out a pair in the victory.
Kelly Eberly (3-7) took the loss for Bloomsburg, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks before exiting in favor of Lillian Gray. Gray finished the game in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits while walking a pair and striking out one.
Game Two: WCU 10 Bloomsburg 1 (5 Innings)
Bloomsburg opened the scoring in the first, pushing across the first run of the game on a sac fly to carry a 1-0 lead into the home first.
West Chester erased the deficit quickly with a standup triple by Rittenbaugh, which scored
Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) who had singled to open the inning.
Hailey Melvin (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) drove home Rittenbaugh to make it a 2-1 WCU lead.
The Melvin sisters extended the lead in the second with an RBI single by
Hailey Melvin to plate older sister Madison who had reached with two outs to spark the rally. West Chester walked in another run as the inning continued, stretching the lead to 4-1. West Chester added another run via a fielding error by the Huskies and stretched the lead to 6-1 moments later when Karcher scampered home on a wild pitch to give the Golden Rams a 6-1 lead heading to the third.
West Chester continued to extend its lead in the fourth via aggressive baserunning, as
Madison Melvin scored on a wild pitch to help West Chester carry a 7-1 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, West Chester stretched its lead to 10-1 with a bases-clearing single into right field, which the wind pulled away from the Huskies right fielder, helping the Golden Rams take a commanding nine-run lead.
Makenzie Edwards (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) pitched well once again, earning her second win in as many days, improving to 8-5 on the year with a five inning effort, which saw her surrender just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out two in the victory.
Callie Sowers got the start and loss for Bloomsburg, allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits and six walks before exiting for Lyndsey Reinohl. Reinohl had similar luck in the circle, allowing four runs on three hits and five walks as West Chester completed the doubleheader and season sweep.
