West Chester Women Sweep Shippensburg and Southern Connecticut State

MEET RESULTS

WEST CHESTER, PA – The Golden Rams women's swim team opened the new season with an impressive sweep over Shippensburg and Southern Connecticut State Friday afternoon inside the Graham Natatorium.
 
West Chester amassed 209.5 points to outduel Shippensburg (78) and 206.5 points to outdistance SCSU (84.5). Along the way, the women won 14 of the events, had four double winners while five events saw the Golden Rams sweep of the top three spots.
 
Alicia McHugh (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard competitions in her first college meet. She scored a 199.35 on the 1m and a 209.78 on the 3m. Evie Altland (Middletown, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) was second off the 3m with a score of 203.4.
 
Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) won both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500 free while helping the 200 medley relay team finish first to open up the meet. Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) won the 100 free and the 1000. The 1650 was not contested, meaning West Chester claimed first place in each of the two distance events. Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) won both breaststroke events. She also was second in the pool on her 200 medley relay team, which finished second to West Chester's other squad. In fact, the Golden Rams swept the top three spots with their 200 medley relay squads.
 
In both the 200 free and 100 backstroke, West Chester claimed the top three spots and fifth place. Niness was followed to the wall by teammates Danielle Stewart (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Shannon Gamble (West Chester, Pa./Henderson). Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) won the 100 back. She came in under one minute with a time of 59.72 seconds. Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Alexandra Defrehn (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) were second and third, respectively, while Anna Evans (Beaver Falls, Pa./North Penn) was fifth.
 
Defrehn won the 200 back for her first individual college win. DiCarlo was second and Corinne McCall (Archbald, Pa./Scranton Prep) third. Evans was fifth.
 
Koehle finished one second ahead of teammate McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) in the 100 breast. Haley Brigle (Reading, Pa./Wilson) was fourth in that race. Samantha Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) won the 50 free with Gamble and Skylar Strunk (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) right behind her. Those three anchored the three 200 medley relay teams that placed first, second and third.
 
Sophia Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley Area) took first place in the 200 butterfly. Amy Masciulli (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) was second, and Ally Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) was fourth.
 
Mallory Pardoe (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) won the 100 fly.
 
West Chester will be off for two weeks before heading to New York University for a meet on Oct. 14.
