Women's Swimming Returns to Action Against Indian River State and Nova Southeastern

MEET RESULTS

FORT PIERCE, FL - The West Chester University women's swim team was back in the pool for the first time in 2024 on Friday, competing in the Sunshine State against Nova Southeastern and Indian River State College.
 
West Chester dropped both decisions, falling by the measure of 192-70 to Nova and 166-96 to Indian River State.
 
West Chester posted a host of top-five finishes led by second-place finishes from Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity).
 
West Chester started off its day in the pool with a fourth-place showing in the 200 yard medley relay as the quartet of DiCarlo, McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County), Isabela Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), and Samantha Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) touched the wall in a time of 1 minute, 48.65 seconds.
 
In the 1000 free, Niness, Danielle Stewart (Dover, Del./Ceasar Rodney), and Caitlin Hammill (Collegeville, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) also finished in the top-five, touching the wall in times of 10:33.56, 10:38.57 and 10:44.42, to finish second, third, and fifth, respectively.
 
Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) turned in a pair of top-five finishes, taking fifth in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.07, before claiming fourth in the 500 free in 5:12.60. Durkin's fourth-place time in the 500 saw her lead a trio of Golden Rams to the wall as Sophia Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley) placed fifth in 5:13.36 while Stewart was sixth in 5:15.11.
 
Individually, DiCarlo picked up a second-place effort in the 50 back, touching the wall in 27.88 seconds, before finishing fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.96. Alexandra DeFrehn (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview) was fifth in the 100 back, touching the wall in 1:01.20, following a seventh-place time in the 50 back in 28.92 seconds.
 
In the 50 breaststroke, Hemingway notched a fifth-place swim in 30.87 seconds, while Mallory Pardoe (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) finished sixth in the 100 butterfly in 59.74 seconds.
 
Trumble led West Chester in the 50 free, touching the wall in 24.47 seconds to place third, while Skylar Strunk (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) was close behind in fifth in a time of 25.04 seconds. In the 100 free, Trumble came in sixth in a time of 54.37 seconds, following Niness, who posted third in 53.50 seconds.
 
Lenya Ryan (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) led West Chester in the 100 breaststroke, finishing seventh in 1:07.88 seconds, while Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College) was eighth in 1:08.17.
Kil finished fifth in the 50 fly, touching the wall in 26.72 seconds, before finishing sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.53 seconds, just ahead of Ryan who was seventh in 2:11.93.
 
West Chester also finished third in the 400 free relay as the foursome of Durkin, Strunk, Niness and Trumble teamed up to touch the wall in 3:36.00.
 
West Chester returns to action next Friday at home against the University of Pennsylvania on what will be Senior Day for the Golden Rams. Action is set to get underway at 5 p.m., but fans are encouraged to arrive early as Senior Day ceremonies will take place before the beginning of the meet.
