WEST CHESTER, PA – Graduate student,
Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) collected a long pass from
Ella Shockley (Delmar, Del./Delmar) at the restraining line, dribbled around the edge on the near side, stepped off the baseline and tucked a shot between the legs of the goalkeeper 70 seconds into overtime, giving No. 6 West Chester a 3-2 victory over No. 2 Kutztown Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (10-5, 3-3 PSAC) evened its record in the league standings while Kutztown (10-4, 4-3) dropped its third straight conference tilt. The Golden Rams have now won two in a row and three of their last four to climb back into the playoff picture.
Both teams scored twice in the first half, but were held quiet for the final 30 minutes, though Wolfe almost picked up the game-winner in regulation with a nifty move at the top of the circle that gave her space on the right side of the cage. Kutztown keeper, Lorelei Lehenky, made the save with about 50 seconds remaining.
Caitlynn Szarko (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) scored the Golden Rams' first goal of the game and then assisted on
Jasmine Miller's (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) go-ahead goal in the second.
Ryan Curley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) made four saves to pick up her 10th win of the season. Lehensky also made four saves for Kutztown.
West Chester will be back home at Vonnie Gros Field on Saturday – Homecoming – when they welcome No. 10 Mansfield to town. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
