Women's Soccer to Host Bloomsburg on Saturday Afternoon

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- After opening October with a 3-1 setback at Kutztown on Wednesday night, the West Chester University women’s soccer team (4-3-0, 3-3-0) looks to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon against an old rival in Bloomsburg (6-2-0, 4-2-0) on Saturday afternoon on Rockwell Field.

Last Time Out

West Chester visited Kutztown on Wednesday night to renew its rivalry with the Golden Bears under the lights of Keystone Field. The Golden Rams got out to an early 1-0 lead when Victoria Pungello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) scored just over 11 minutes in, but Kutztown countered quickly, tying the game less than 10 minutes later and scoring two more goals in the second half to capture a 3-1 victory over the Golden Rams.

Alyson Cutter (Warrington, Pa./C.B. South) continues to lead the team in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points on the year, while Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) is tied for second on the team in points with 10 after logging her team-best eighth helper of the year in the setback on Wednesday night. In goal, Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) is 4-3-0 with a 1.31 goals-against average and two shutouts on the year.

West Chester will look to avoid its second losing streak of the year this afternoon as the Golden Rams have split their last four meetings, falling to Millersville on September 18 before outscoring Mansfield and Lock Haven 9-1 over two games and falling to Kutztown by a 3-1 final to open its October slate on Wednesday night. 

Home Sweet Home

West Chester returns home today for its first home game since September 18 vs. Millersville and third home game of the season after playing on Rockwell just twice in September. West Chester is 1-1-0 at home this season and has been 25-4-2 at home since 2021.

Series History

West Chester enters play with a 27-20-6 lead in the all-time series against Bloomsburg and has won each of the last four meetings between the two foes. The Golden Rams' last loss to Bloomsburg came in the PSAC Tournament in November 2021, and the team has not lost to the Huskies at home since October of that season. Prior to that October loss, West Chester had not fallen to Bloomsburg at home since November 2004.

Bloomsburg enters play on a four-game winning streak, which saw the Huskies vault from a record of 2-2 overall and 0-2 in league play to a mark of 6-2 overall and 4-2 in league action with wins over Lock Haven, Kutztown, Millersville, and Mansfield. During this four-game winning streak, the Huskies have outscored opponents 11-2, including a pair of shutout wins over Lock Haven and Mansfield, along with a 2-1 win over Kutztown to finish September.

Brooke Foster leads Bloomsburg offensively, scoring a team-high four goals and one assist for nine points, while Sydney Donovan and Kennedy Kilchrist scored two goals on the year. Samantha Merklin has been excellent in goal for Bloomsburg this year, playing to a record of 6-2-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and an 87.9 % save percentage.
