BLOOMSBURG, PA – Two early goals proved to be too much to overcome as fifth-seeded West Chester dropped a quarterfinal round field hockey match to fourth-seeded Bloomsburg at Steph Pettit Stadium Monday afternoon.
West Chester (12-7) now waits until next Monday when the NCAA announces the Division II field of eight to see if its season continues while Bloomsburg (15-4) heads to the PSAC Semifinals and a date with No. 1 Shippensburg on Friday afternoon.
Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) scored in the second quarter to cut Bloomsburg's two-goal advantage in half. But, the equalizer never came.
The Huskies' Kara Koch scored on a penalty corner in the sixth minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. But, the back-breaker came with just 14 seconds left in the first quarter. Genna Bush took a pass from Koch and beat West Chester goalkeeper
Ryan Curley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley).
Wolfe struck 70 seconds into the second quarter to breathe life into the visiting sideline. But, Huskies shut out the Golden Rams the last 44 minutes.
