WORCESTER, MASS – Five different players registered hat trick to lead third-ranked West Chester to a 16-5 victory over No. 21 Assumption at Brian Kelley '83 Stadium Sunday afternoon in a non-league women's lacrosse contest.
West Chester (4-0) outscored Assumption (2-2) by a convincing 9-1 margin in the second half to eventually walk away from the upset-minded Greyhounds.
The difference – draw controls.
The Golden Rams won the first seven draws of the third quarter and held a decided 10-2 advantage overall after the break. Controlling those possessions and running time off the clock while also putting the ball in the back of the cage was an obvious change from the first 30 minutes when West Chester hit three pipes and turned the ball over 15 times – most of those errant passes in the transition game.
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin),
Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge),
Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga),
Jess Harrison (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) and
Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) all posted three goals each in the win.
Goalkeeper
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made 10 saves in the cage to pick up the win.
For Stanislawczyk, she now has 225 carer goals and moves into third place on the school's all-time scoring list. She is 30 behind Jackie Baker (2006-09) and 74 away from the leader, Katelyn Martin (2003-06).
Leading 7-4 at the break, West Chester scored five goals in the first six minutes of the second half to slice the game wide open. Harrison potted two of her three during that stretch. It was part of a 7-0 run overall that spanned the second and third quarters, which moved the game from a 6-4 contest to 13-4.
West Chester returns to action on March 20 with another road contest at Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester, N.Y. That will be the end of a three-game road swing in which the Golden Rams have won the first two tilts.
