MANSFIELD, PA - Adriana Palumbo (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) knocked in a rebound 1:18 into the second overtime lifting No. 5 West Chester to a 1-0 over No. 10 Mansfield at soggy and wet Karl van Norman Field Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (6-2) earned its first win in extra time this fall with the victory over Mansfield (4-3).
The Golden Rams forced a penalty corner early in the second OT, and
Ella Shockley (Delmar, Del./Delmar) blasted a slapshot from the left wing that was saved by Mansfield goalkeeper August Lewis. However, the Mounties could not clear the rebound, and Palumbo spun around and poked the loose ball by Lewis during the ensuing scramble.
West Chester controlled the majority of the action taking 16 shots to Mansfield's four. The Mounties only shot on goal was a breakaway attempt that West Chester's
Ryan Curley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) kicked aside.
West Chester is back in action on Saturday at home against Slippery Rock on Senior Day.
