Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa.- Devven Frey (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) opened the scoring just 53 seconds in and the West Chester University men's soccer team (4-2-2) led for most of the 89 minutes that followed but California (2-3-2) tied the game with 20 seconds to play in regulation to escape with a 1-1 draw against the Golden Rams.

Frey helped West Chester make its scoreless streak as short as possible on Saturday, racing down the field off the tap and accepting a perfectly timed pass from Mason Clatterbuck (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) to give the Golden Rams the early 1-0 advantage.

While this was the lone goal of the first half for West Chester, it was far from the Golden Rams only good opportunity as the squad ended the first 45 minutes of play with a 3-1 lead in shots and a 4-0 advantage in corners.

With the game appearing destined for a 1-0 victory for the Golden Rams, the Vulcans found the equalizer with just 20 seconds to play, scoring on a header to tie the match at 1-1 and escape with a 1-1 draw over the visiting Golden Rams.

The late equalizer was one of just two shots on goal for Cal during the match, with the other chance coming just over 20 minutes in on Saturday afternoon.

West Chester dominated play throughout the afternoon, ending the match with an 8-6 lead in shots, including a 4-2 edge in shots on goal and an 8-0 lead in corners.

Jaden Howard (Townsend, Del./Middletown) got the start in goal and made one save in the draw, while his counterpart, Kiernan Webb, was excellent for the Vulcans as well, making three saves to keep his side in the match throughout the afternoon.
