Men's Soccer Rolls to 5-0 Victory over Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.-Peter Tichy (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) scored the eventual game-winner and added an assist to help guide the RV West Chester University men's soccer team (1-0-1) to its first win of the season by a 5-0 final over Holy Family (0-2-0).

Tichy gave West Chester an early lead just over nine minutes into the match, taking an assist from Tommy Bodenschatz (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) to give the visiting Golden Rams an early 1-0 lead.

Just before halftime, Owen Slack (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) doubled the lead off an assist from Frankie Taylor (Delran, N.J./Delran), stretching the lead to 2-0.

Despite the halftime deficit, Holy Family did outshoot West Chester 8-4 but keeper Jaden Howard (Townsend, Del./Middletown) was equal to the task, making three big saves to keep Holy Family off the scoreboard.

Maksym Komperda (Whitehall, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) stretched the lead to 3-0 just under a minute out of the halftime break, using an assist from Tichy to give West Chester the commanding three-goal advantage.

In the 65th minute, West Chester tacked on another goal as Slack used an assist from Mason Clatterbuck (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Taylor to extend the Golden Ram lead to 4-0 with just under 25 minutes to play in the match.

Jack O'Brien (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) notched his first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute off an assist from fellow rookie Alex Fedor (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East), which extended the lead to 5-0.

Despite trailing 14-10 in shots and 10-2 in corner kicks in the victory, West Chester did end the match with an 8-3 lead in shots on goal after holding Holy Family without a shot on goal throughout the second half.

Howard played well in his collegiate debut, making three nice saves in the first half to pick up his first victory and shutout. Cheikh Diouf got the start in goal for Holy Family and allowed four goals on seven shots, while making three saves in the loss.
