Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Penn 181-114 in 2025 Opener

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- For the first time since December 6, the West Chester University women's swimming and diving team was in action on Wednesday night against Ivy-league member the University of Pennsylvania. West Chester battled its guests from the City of Brotherly Love throughout the evening but fell to the Quakers by a 181-114 final in the midweek clash.

In diving action, West Chester was led by Alicia McHugh (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) who picked up pair of fifth-place finishes off the three and one meter boards with scores of 210.98 and 204.23, respectively.

In the swimming pool, West Chester started its night with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:48.57, while another quartet of Golden Rams placed third in one minute and 48.97 seconds.

Dani Stewart (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) started off the individual events for West Chester with a third-place finish in 10:39.88, before Bella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.59.

Anna Evans (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) led West Chester in the 100 backstroke as the first of three Golden Rams in the top five in a time of 1:00.23 to place third, while Samantha Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Allie DeFrehn (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview) were close behind in 1:00.43 and 1:01.12, respectively.

Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College) picked up the first event victory of the evening for West Chester in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.08. Koehle earned her second victory of the night a few minutes later in the 200 breaststroke as she touched the wall in 2:18.52 to outpace her competitor from Penn by four seconds. Lenya Ryan (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) was third in this event in 2:25.08.

Susana Ungo-Quero (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Sagrada Familia) placed third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.00 before finishing second in the 100 fly in 57.35 seconds.

Sam Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) turned in back-to-back second place finishes in the 50 and 100 free in times of 24.27 and 53.18 seconds, while Isabella Kil took third in the 100 free in 53.54 seconds.

DeFrehn led West Chester in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.16 to finish third, while Evans and Sam Heiland (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) were fourth and fifth in times of 2:12.21 and 2:12.26, respectively.

Rookie Ditta Kowalik (State College, Pa./State College) led West Chester in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.63 to finish third.

Ryan placed second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:41.16, while DeFrehn and Molly Hubal (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) were close behind in 4:47.65 and 4:49.04, respectively.  

West Chester wrapped up its Wednesday evening clash with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:38.26.

West Chester will be back in action on Saturday morning against NYU beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Golden Rams, so fans are encouraged to arrive early as Senior Day ceremonies are expected to commence around 10:50 a.m.
