MANSFIELD, PA – West Chester hits the road Saturday for a conference showdown with the Mansfield Mountaineer at 1 p.m. West Chester defeated Mansfield, 3-2, at Vonnie Gros Field in a non-conference match last month. Saturday will be Mansfield's pink out game for Breast Cancer Awareness.

West Chester (8-4, 3-2 PSAC) sits in a four-way tie for third place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference standings just one game behind Shippensburg. The next two games will be pivotal for the Golden Rams. The Golden Rams welcome Bloomsburg, one of the teams in that four-way tie for third place, in what seems to be a pivotal contest for each school's chances of making the NCAA Tournament.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS
West Chester is 6-3 in its last nine contests and has positioned itself well for what will certainly be an exciting run through the second half of October. The Golden Rams have scored 20 goals in its last six games, averaging almost four goals per contest.

In West Chester's loss to No. 1 Kutztown earlier in the week, Gianna Funari (Voorhees, N.J./Voorhees) made a nifty move at the top of the circle to get around a defender and penetrate inside the circle and then reverse chipped a shot into the far corner to tie the game at one. That tally ended a streak of 196 scoreless minutes for Kutztown field hockey. That was West Chester's lone goal of the game.

Golden Rams' goalkeeper Audra Symborski (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East) made four saves in the loss. Caitlynn Szarko's five goals so far this fall matches her total from last season. She is tied for second on the team in scoring with 16 points with forward Nina Scott. Midfielder Veerle Hersman leads the team in both goals scored (10) and points (23). She has been having a terrific sophomore campaign so far this fall. Six players on the Golden Rams have scored three, or more, goals this season as evidence of the purple & gold's expanded offensive attack.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTIES
The Mansfield Mountaineers field hockey team (5-7, 1-3 PSAC) dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest, on the road against Millersville, 2-1, in their latest contest. Kiley Stolzfus had the lone goal for the Mounties. Jenna Duke had an assist and three shots on goal. Lydia Miller made four saves. Duke leads the Mounties in goals (11) and points scored (26).
