MANSFIELD, PA –
Veerle Hersman (Lisse, The Netherlands) scored two goals, and
Gianna Funari added the game-winner with five minutes left in the game to lift fifth-ranked West Chester to a 3-2 victory over Mansfield at Karl van Norman Field Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (9-4, 4-2 PSAC) moved into a tie for second place with Bloomsburg and Shippensburg and one-half game ahead of East Stroudsburg, who plays Saturday night.
The Golden Rams held a 19-6 advantage on shots and a 13-4 edge on penalty corners.
Hersman picked up her 11th and 12th goals on the season, scoring in the 30th and 48th minute to give WCU a one-goal lead each time. Mansfield's Jenna Duke scored in the 52nd minute to tie the game, before Funari scored off a corner three minutes later.
West Chester returns home Wednesday to take on Bloomsburg at 5 p.m. at Vonnie Gros Field.
