SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- Searching for an important PSAC East victory, the West Chester University men's soccer team (5-4-2, 2-2-1) took to the road on Saturday to renew its rivalry with Shippensburg (3-5-3, 0-3-2). West Chester took an early one-goal lead into the halftime break, but Shippensburg tied the game early in the second half and earned a 1-1 draw against the Golden Rams on David See Field on Saturday afternoon.
Luke Newman (Mission Viejo, Cal./Santa Margarita Catholic) gave West Chester an early 1-0 lead in the 19
th minute when he buried a ball moving through the top of the box off an assist from
Macade Knoblauch (Pottstown, Pa./Boyertown).
West Chester had the better of the play throughout the first half, taking seven shots total, including three shots on goal, while holding the host Raiders to just two shots and two corners.
Shippensburg got its first shot on goal of the afternoon in the 49
th minute when Ethan Paulukow shot following a Nate Herb free kick, but
Alexi Amanatidis (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./The Shipley School) was up to the task, making the save to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard early in the second half.
In the 62
nd minute, Shippensburg found the equalizer when Coy Rush buried a chance into the top left corner to tie the match at 1-1.
West Chester threatened down the stretch, outshooting its hosts 7-4 in the second half, although corners and shots on goal were tied at 1-1 and 2-2, respectively.
Amanatidis made one save in the draw, while Ryan Krumenacker made four stops to help lead the Raiders to a critical 1-1 draw.
West Chester ended the game with a 14-6 lead in shots, along with a 5-2 lead in shots on goal.
