Women's Soccer to Host Millersville on Wednesday Afternoon

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's soccer team (5-1-3, 3-1-3) will put its five-game unbeaten streak to the test once again with the third and final game of its three-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon against Millersville (4-3-2, 3-2-2) beginning at 2 p.m. Millersville is the lone team to defeat the Golden Rams so far this season, a result that the Purple and Gold will be looking to avenge on Wednesday afternoon.

Last Time Out

West Chester stretched its unbeaten streak to five in a row but saw its three-game winning and shutout streak halted by Shepherd on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Rams and Rams battled to a 1-1 draw. Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) scored her sixth goal in seven games early in the first half to give West Chester a 1-0 lead, but Shepherd countered with a goal of its own to tie the score at 1-1 before the break. Despite the 1-1 draw, West Chester ended the game with a 25-13 lead in shots and an 11-7lead in shots on goal after applying heavy pressure to the Shepherd defense throughout the second half.

Flock Talk

Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) has been strong in goal this season, playing to a record of 5-1-3 with a 0.46 goals-against average and six shutouts while making 35 saves in 789 minutes of work. Keen has played all but 22 minutes in goal this season, with Sam Hollish handling the balance as she entered in relief of Keen in a 4-0 victory over Lock Haven on September 27.

Barber earned PSAC East Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after scoring two more goals last week against both ESU and Shepherd. Barber remains first on the team in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points. Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) is second on the team in scoring with three goals and three assists for nine points, while Lindsey Balmer (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) is second with two goals and an assist for five points.

Home Sweet Home

West Chester is 4-0-1 at home this season and has been 33-6-4 at home since 2021. West Chester has outscored opponents at home this season by an 8-1 margin and has shutout its guests in every home game but one (Saturday vs Shepherd) this season.

Wednesday is the Golden Rams third of three straight at home and the team's last home game until Shippensburg visits Rockwell Field on October 18.

Going Back-to-Back

Barber earned PSAC East Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after scoring against both East Stroudsburg and Shepherd last week. With these goals, Barber has now scored a goal in each of the last four games and six of the last seven, dating back to her first goal of the season vs No. 11 Jefferson on September 9. Barber also added an assist in the 4-0 win over Lock Haven on 9/27.

Climbing the Record Books

With 192 saves, 31 wins, and 23 career shutouts, junior keeper Grace Keen is quickly moving her way through the Golden Rams record books. The junior keeper who has been the starter since day one at West Chester is ninth in team history in saves, eighth in wins, and sixth in shutouts, just one shutout shy of tying Hayley McGee for fifth in team history.

Series History

West Chester holds a 26-11-3 lead in the all-time series against Millersville despite falling to the Marauders at home last year and at Millersville earlier this season. West Chester's home loss to Millersville last September was the Golden Rams' first home loss to the Marauders since September 2004.

Scouting Millersville

After a winless start to the season, Millersville has caught fire since its win over West Chester back on September 17th, improving to 4-3-2 overall and 3-2-2 in league play to sit in a tie for third in the PSAC East standings as the second half of league play gets underway on Wednesday. Millersville played to a 1-1 draw at Shepherd on October 1, which halted a four-game match-winning streak that had started with the win over the Golden Rams and included wins over Shippensburg (2-0), Lock Haven (2-1), and Mansfield (6-0).

Offensively, Aubrey Strohecker leads the Marauders with seven goals and three assists for 17 points on the year, while Isabel Coy has four goals and one assist for nine points. Sara Edwards is tied with Strohecker for the team lead in assists with three and is tied for third on the team in points with five, as she has also scored one goal this season.

In goal, Sabrinia Zimmerman is 4-1-1 on the year with a 1.00 goals-against average, while Emma Moss is 0-2-1 with a 2.67 goals-against average.
