How They Got Here
West Chester enters the PSAC Tournament on a 13-game unbeaten streak, earning wins in 10 of those 13 games, with the lone draws coming against Bloomsburg and in both games of the regular-season series with Shepherd. The Golden Rams had a rocky start to league play, battling to a scoreless draw at Shippensburg on September 6 before falling to Millersville on September 17 and playing to another 1-1 draw at Bloomsburg on September 20. West Chester posted a 1-0 victory over Kutztown in its East home opener on September 24 and has not looked back since, winning three of its next four as the team began its 13-game unbeaten streak. West Chester clinched a share of the PSAC East Regular Season crown with its 2-1 win over Lock Haven on Senior Day on November 1 and turned this share into an outright Regular Season crown on November 5 with a dominant 2-0 win over East Stroudsburg in the regular-season finale on Wednesday night.
Flock Talk
15 different players have scored a goal for West Chester this season, with
Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) and
Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) leading the pack with eight and six goals, respectively. Barber is first on the team in points with 19, as she has three assists to complement her eight goals, while Matter, the WCU career assist leader, has five assists for 17 points.
Lindsey Balmer (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and
Victoria Pungello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) are tied for third on the team in scoring with 12 points each as Balmer has five goals and two assists, while Pungello has three goals and a team-best six assists.
Lauren Reimold (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) is close behind with three goals and three assists for nine points.
In goal,
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) has once again proven herself as one of the top keepers in the PSAC as she is 12-1-4 on the year with a 0.39 goals-against average and nine shutouts, while also playing a large role in three other combined shutouts for the Purple and Gold. Keen, who is nearing the end of her junior season, is first in the league in goals-against average, save percentage (.900), and shutouts at the conclusion of the regular season.
The Last Time
West Chester captured its first outright PSAC East Regular Season crown since 2022 last week with a win over East Stroudsburg on the final day of the regular season. With a win over Clarion, who pulled an impressive upset over Edinboro on Saturday evening, West Chester would host the PSAC Championship weekend for the first time since 2017, beginning on Friday afternoon.
Rank and File
West Chester rose to 15
th in the Division II Coaches poll last week and did nothing to hurt its ranking, posting a dominant 2-0 win over East Stroudsburg on the road on Wednesday night. The Golden Rams were also ranked first in the Atlantic Region in the first numerical NCAA Division II Women's Soccer rankings of the year last week. They will keep an eye on the final set of rankings this week to see if this continues for another week. Gannon was ranked second in the Atlantic Region last week, meaning that if the Golden Rams see the Golden Knights during the Tournament this week, the winner may have the upper hand for the top seed. The NCAA Division II women's soccer selection show is scheduled for next Monday evening.
Home Sweet Home
West Chester returns home on Tuesday, boasting an impressive record of 8-0-1 on Rockwell Field with a 1-1 draw opposite Shepherd in early October being the lone non-victory of the 2025 regular season on Rockwell. West Chester has posted wins over multiple ranked foes, including West Virginia State, Jefferson, Kutztown, and Bloomsburg on Rockwell Field this year and is outscoring its foes 17-2 at home this year, with the lone goals allowed being against Shepherd and late in a Senior Day victory over Lock Haven in the regular season home finale.
Series History
Since 2001, West Chester is 15-0-1 against Clarion and has won 11 straight, including a 1-0 win over the Golden Eagles at Clarion in 2018, which is the last matchup between the two teams. 2018 was the last season in which the PSAC was one large conference, as 2019 was the first year of a return to the Divisional format, which has significantly limited the matchups between the Golden Rams and members of the West since. West Chester is a perfect 11-0 at home against the Golden Eagles and has allowed just two goals against Clarion since 2001, with the last goal the Golden Eagles were able to muster coming in August 2007 in a 4-1 Golden Ram victory. Head coach
Betty Ann Kempf Townsley is unbeaten and untied against Clarion, with the lone draw in the series coming in October 2005 at Clarion when the two teams battled to a scoreless draw. Tuesday afternoon's game will be the first PSAC Tournament matchup between the two sides, as Clarion made its PSAC Tournament debut and earned its first victory in the newly expanded PSAC Tournament on Saturday against Edinboro.
Scouting Clarion
Clarion (4-11-3, 3-8-3) enters the PSAC Quarterfinals following its first PSAC Tournament victory in program history over Edinboro by a 1-0 final on Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles posted regular-season wins over Seton Hill, California, and Pitt-Johnstown, along with important draws against Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill, and Edinboro, which, along with a larger playoff field (five teams now qualify for the PSAC Tournament with the four seed hosting the five in a play-in game), was enough to help the Golden Eagles to their first-ever PSAC Tournament appearance. Saturday's victory, which was also the first win at Edinboro in team history for Clarion, halted a four-match winless streak, which had seen the Golden Eagles tie Seton Hill (3-3), fall to California (2-1), Slippery Rock (1-0), and Gannon (3-0) and tie Edinboro (1-1).
At Edinboro on Saturday night, Leah Deal scored her second goal of the season in the 28
th minute to give her side an early 1-0 lead before being shown a red card in the 44
th minute. Deal was given a red along with Jillian Kalic of Edinboro, forcing both teams to play a man-down for the remainder of the match. Clarion ended the night with a 17-10 lead in shots, although Edinboro had a slight 9-8 lead in shots on goal and a 9-2 lead in corner kicks. Sage Sherk was phenomenal in goal for Clarion, making eight saves to post arguably her most important shutout of the season.
Ciara DiMauro is Clarion's leading scorer with eight goals and four assists for 20 points on the year, while Marisa Colondrillo is next with three goals and three assists for nine points. Paige Brewer has two goals and an assist for five points, as does Leah Deal, who should not be available on Tuesday after her Saturday night red card. Sherk is 4-11-3 in goal with a 2.30 goals-against average and two shutouts, along with a .714 save percentage.
With a Win
With a win on Tuesday afternoon, West Chester would host PSAC Championship weekend for the first time since 2017 and begin its weekend on Friday with a matchup against the winner of a clash between Gannon and Shepherd, scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Gannon. The other half of the bracket features Kutztown hosting IUP on Tuesday night at 6, while Millersville will visit PSAC West Champion, Slippery Rock, for a 1 p.m. start on Tuesday afternoon.
