WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The fourth-ranked West Chester University women's lacrosse team (2-0) rolled to a 24-2 victory over American International (1-3) on Friday afternoon as the Golden Rams continued their eight-game homestand to open the 2025 season.
West Chester scored the first six goals of the game in just over seven minutes and held a 13-1 lead after the first quarter and a 17-2 lead at the half en route to the 22-goal triumph. The Golden Ram defense pitched a shutout in the second half, as
Morgan Koons (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made three saves after entering at halftime in relief of
Hannah Cornelius (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) who got the starting nod once again and improved to 2-0 between the pipes.
15 different Golden Rams mustered goals in the victory, including a handful of first-time Golden Ram goal scorers, including
Morgan McClintock (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley), Audrey Miller (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), Maddy Mela (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), Nicolette Giordano (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), and Anna Vaccerelli (Medina, Oh./Medina).
PSAC East Athlete of the Week,
Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Grace Rosica (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) tied for the team lead in scoring with four goals and one assist each for five points. Barnett and Rosica both took four shots on goal and scored aon all four shots in the victory. McClintock, a senior transfer from Division III Cabrini, scored her first goal as a Golden Ram and also led the team in assists in the victory.
Kendall DiCamillo (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) ended the game with the team lead in ground balls and caused turnovers with three each, while McClintock and
Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) tied for the team lead in draw controls with three each.
Similarly to Saturday afternoon, West Chester was 9-for-10 on clears with its lone turnover being in the first quarter, while also ending the game with an 18-9 led in draw controls and a 19-7 lead in ground balls.
West Chester was also 3-for-4 on free positions, including a 1-for-1 effort in the fourth quarter.
