Fifth Seeded Golden Rams Fall to Top-Seeded Warriors in NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament

STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The fifth-seeded West Chester University softball team (33-19) battled throughout the afternoon but fell to top-seed East Stroudsburg (48-11-1) by a 2-1 final in the Atlantic Regional Tournament on Saturday afternoon, bringing the 2025 season to its conclusion.

"I'm very proud of this team and the fight they showed today and all season," said head coach Diane Lokey. "Ending our season today wasn't what we wanted, but credit to East Stroudsburg on a great game. Sarah Davenport is an outstanding pitcher and had another great day in the circle so certainly credit to her. Kenzie (Makenzie Edwards) worked hard all day and did a great job settling in after the first inning to help keep us in the game throughout the afternoon. I also want to say a special thank you to our senior class (Casey Best, Makenzie Edwards, and Hailey Melvin) for all their hard work throughout their careers and their leadership."

East Stroudsburg pushed across two runs in the first inning on three hits and an error, including a leadoff triple by Taylor Lipkins and an RBI double to left by Delaney Ridgell to carry a 2-0 lead into the second inning.

Edwards settled in quickly after this first inning and was excellent throughout the remainder of the game, keeping the Warriors' offense off balance throughout the afternoon and holding the potent Warriors to just two runs.

Sarah Davenport (32-4) carried a no-hitter into the seventh before Paige Marabell (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) broke the no-hitter and shutout with one swing, driving a 2-2 pitch well past the left field fence to cut the Warrior lead in half to start the seventh inning. Davenport settled back in quickly after this, working out of the inning to hold off the upset-minded Golden Rams for a 2-1 victory.

Makenzie Edwards (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) (9-10) was a tough-luck loser for West Chester, ending her career with a setback after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, while walking three and striking out two.

Today's setback brought the Golden Rams 2025 season to its conclusion as the team finishes its third consecutive NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament appearance.
