STROUDSBURG, Pa.- After a day of delays and an extra-inning game between East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg, which the Raiders won in walk-off fashion for the second day in a row, the West Chester University softball team got its first elimination game of the weekend underway against Bowie State just after 7 p.m. on Friday. West Chester and Bowie State completed three innings on Friday night before darkness fully set in and suspended play with the Bulldogs holding a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth.
Taylor Dawkins opened the scoring for Bowie State with an RBI single in the first and drove in two more in the third to give the Bulldogs the early advantage.
Senior Lindsey George was sharp for Bowie State early on Friday evening, holding West Chester hitless and allowing just two walks while striking out two in three innings of work.
Danielle Ciliberto (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) got the start for West Chester and allowed three runs on four hits while striking out five through her first three innings of work.
Play will resume at 11 a.m. tomorrow for the final four innings of the West Chester/Bowie State game. After this game is completed, the winner will take on top-seed East Stroudsburg in another elimination game at 1 p.m. for the right to face the lone unbeaten team, Stroudsburg, in yet another elimination game beginning at 3 p.m.
