WEST CHESTER, PA – Erin O'Donnell (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) scored two goals and
Caitlynn Szarko (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) scored a goal and assisted on another to lead seventh-ranked West Chester to a 4-2 victory over second-ranked Saint Anselm on a hot, blistering Saturday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
West Chester (3-1) never trailed in the contest after scoring the first two goals of the game in the opening period. Saint Anselm (2-2) clawed back to within one in the second. However, the Golden Rams scored two more times to open up a 4-1 lead that it would not relinquish.
Veerle Hersman (Lisse, The Netherlands) scored the hosts' other tally on the afternoon.
West Chester outshot Saint Anselm by a 24-8 margin while controlling the play and possession for much of the contest. The Hawks managed just one shot in the first half.
Prior to the game, West Chester University recognized the 50th anniversary of the school's four straight national championships with some members from those teams being honored in a brief ceremony.
The Golden Rams return to action on Wednesday with a non-league affair against Adelphi at Vonnie Gros Field at 4 p.m.
