WEST CHESTER, PA - Newly anionted fourth-ranked West Chester University welcomes Adelphi University to Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. It marks the fourth time in WCU's first five games of 2025 that the Golden Rams will lineup against a Northeast-10 opponent.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS
After a tough loss, West Chester bounced back with a statement win over No. 2 Saint Anselm College last Saturday. The Golden Rams held the lead throughout the entirety of the game, ending in a 4-2 win.
The Golden Rams showed resilience at both ends of the field. Erin O'Donell scored two goals in the win over Saint Anselm, followed by
Caitlynn Szarko who scored one goal and assisted on another. Sophomore
Veerle Hersman tallied the other goal for the Golden Rams.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
The Panthers sit at 1-2 on the season coming off of a 10-2 loss to East Stroudsburg this past Sunday. On September 10th, the Panthers shut out Molloy in a dominant 6-0 win.
Kelly Johnson and Lana Mignon De Wet lead the attack with two goals each. Freshman Izzy Leclair and newcomer Katie Dettore each scored their first career goals to round out the Panthers' attack versus the Cats'. De Wet leads the Panthers with 4 goals this season.
In goal, Tayla Szmak earned the shutout, improving to 1–1 on the season, while the Panthers' defense limited the Lions to just two shots on goal.
WEST CHESTER MAKING ITS WAY THROUGH THE NORTHEAST 10
West Chester University is 3-1 on the year, including a perfect 3-0 against teams from the Northeast-10 Conference. A win over Adelphi on Wednesday would leave the Golden Rams at 4-0 in the NE-10. As a result, the purple & gold have climbed up the weekly NFHCA Coaches' Poll. In the previous three games against NE-10 opponents, West Chester has outscored the opposition by a 10-4 margin.
WCU MOVIN' ON UP
West Chester University climbed three spots in the most recent NFHCA poll and are now No. 4 in the nation in Division II. A convincing win over then-No. 2 Saint Anselm is a big reason for that move. In fact, this week's poll features the top six spots occupied by a school from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
WCU FIELD HOCKEY A FAMILY AFFAIR
West Chester University has always prided itself on being one big happy family. This year's roster is an example of that as freshman
Lily Coombs has joined her older sister, Emma, at West Chester. The two midfielders play up top in head coach
Amy Cohen's system.
