WEST CHESTER, PA - Seventh-ranked Newberry remained undefeated on the season with its second win over a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) school in as many days as the Wolves shutout fourth-ranked West Chester, 3-0, on a brist Saturday evening at Vonnie Gros Field.
Newberry (5-0) upped its season-opening win streak to five games while West Chester (4-2) saw its two-game win streak come to an end
Wibien Dahmen scored two of the Wolves three goals with Finet Heemskerk opening the scoring with her first of the season in the second quarter. Payton Keeler, Kieke Varenkamp and Amber Tozana each picked up assists in the contest as well.
But, the story of the game was Newberry's goalkeeper, Ayanda Mangenah, who finished with 12 saves to earn the shutout.
West Chester outshot Newberry by a 20-10 margin. However, Mangenah was magnificent in the cage, and the visitors were also able to capatalize on their opportunities taking advantage of its speed in transition. That led to a goal off a penalty corner and a 2-on-0 breakaway in the first half that staked the Wolves to a 2-0 lead.
West Chester also held a 7-3 advantage in corners, but could not make anything of them.
The Golden Rams are back home on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference tilt against Mansfield University.
