Women's Soccer Battles to Scoreless Draw at Shippensburg in PSAC East Opener

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- Looking to build off a dominant 2-0 win over West Virginia State in the season opener, the West Chester University women's soccer team (1-0-1, 0-0-1) was back in action at Shippensburg (1-0-1, 0-0-1) in its PSAC East opener on Saturday afternoon.

West Chester battled throughout the afternoon and ended the contest with a 17-6 lead in shots and a 5-3 lead in shots on goal, while also finishing the game with a 5-2 lead in corners. However, it was not enough to secure a victory to start league play.

Kirstin Brown was excellent for Shippensburg in the draw, making five big saves, including two in the final seven minutes of the match to keep the dangerous Golden Ram offense quiet.

Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made three saves in the draw, including a stop in the 89th minute on a quality chance from Lannah Werynski to keep the game scoreless.

West Chester had a final chance with under a minute to play, winning a corner with 35 seconds remaining on the clock, which resulted in a shot attempt by Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) with just under 15 seconds to play. Ryder's chance went wide left as Shippensburg held on for a scoreless draw.
