No. 5 West Chester Blanks Mansfield, 5-0

WEST CHESTER, PA — No. 5 West Chester shut out visiting Mansfield, 5-0, on an unseasonably hot and humid Friday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

The host Golden Rams (7-1, 1-0 PSAC) scored three times in the first quarter and twice in the fourth. The victory marked West Chester's second win of the season over Mansfield (5-5, 0-1) as it previously beat Mansfield, 4-0, back on Sept. 13 in Mansfield. The match also served as the conference opener for both schools.

Anna Finn (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor) scored twice, including the game-winner, upping her team-leading total to nine goals on the year. Ciara Margetich (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) scored a goal. Veerle Hersman (The Netherlands) tallied a goal and an assist. Lily Coombs (Leonardtown, Pa./Leonardtown) scored her first career goal and recorded her first multi-point game with an assist as well for five points. Nina Scott (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) finished with two assists.

The Golden Rams controlled the shooting totals 23-1, including a 20-0 edge in shots on goal. WCU's goalkeeper, Erin O'Brien (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was credited with the shutout without needing to make a save. Mansfield starter, Lydia Miller, allowed all three West Chester goals in the first quarter without making a save. Kiley Moister relieved her in the second quarter and went the rest of the way, being credited with 13 saves while allowing two goals in the fourth. Mansfield defender, Maura Kulp, was credited with a pair of defensive saves as well.

Up next, the Golden Rams visit Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium in Bloomsburg.
