Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ryder Leads No. 16 Women's Soccer to 1-0 Road Victory over Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V.- Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) scored her team-best third game-winning goal of the season in the first half to lead the 16th-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (12-1-1, 10-1-1) to a 1-0 road victory over Shepherd (10-5-1, 7-5-1) on Wednesday afternoon in West Virginia.

Ryder's fourth goal and third game-winner of the campaign came in the 28th minute with a well-played ball from Kara Slavin (Abington, Pa./Abington), which led the senior in behind the Ram defense, leaving just the keeper for her to beat, which she did with ease to give the Golden Rams the early 1-0 advantage.

This goal came after a chance by Brielle Zink (Islip, N.Y./Islip) was turned away at the last moment by a Shepherd defender following a Golden Ram corner back in the 21st minute.

Holding a 1-0 lead at the half, West Chester, led by three shots on goal from Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT), peppered the Shepherd defense with shots in the first 10 minutes of the half before Shepherd took its first of two second-half shots in the 62nd minute.

West Chester's defense controlled the second half, holding the Rams to just one more late chance in the final two minutes as the Golden Rams finished the half up 7-2 in shots and 14-8 for the game. West Chester also finished the contest with an 8-6 lead in shots on goal and a 13-4 lead in corners.

Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made six saves in the shutout victory, including four in the first half, while her counterpart, Alex Stuart, made five saves of her own to slow the high-powered Golden Ram offense.

Tonight's victory, Keen's 12th of the season, ties her with Hilary Smart for second in career victories, with 54 each, and puts her at 54-14-10 in her Golden Ram career.
