Men's Soccer Concludes Non-League Slate with 1-1 Draw at the College of Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- Keagan Penny (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) scored his first goal of the year with just over five minutes to play to help the West Chester University men's soccer team (6-4-6, 5-3-2) to a 1-1 draw at the College of Staten Island (4-7-3, 2-4-2) on Saturday afternoon.

Staten Island carried a 1-0 lead into the halftime break after a 20th-minute PK goal by Claidi Nurcja gave the host Dolphins the early 1-0 advantage after Kenyon Carter (Cherry Hill, N.J/Cherry Hill East) was whistled for a foul in the box.

The halftime deficit for the Golden Rams was not from a lack of first-half opportunities for West Chester, as the Golden Rams finished the opening half with a 9-8 lead in shots after taking seven of the final eight shots of the half.

After falling victim to a late goal, which led to a draw in its home finale on Wednesday, West Chester picked up a late goal of its own on Saturday when Penny found the back of the net in the 85th minute to tie the score at 1-1 late and help West Chester depart Staten Island with a hard-fought draw.

The Golden Rams finished the game with a 23-12 lead in shots and a 9-6 lead in shots on goal along with a 7-5 lead in corners after finishing the second half with a 14-4 lead in shots and a 4-2 lead in shots on goal.

Jaden Howard (Townsend, Del./Middletown) made five saves in the draw, while the duo of Luca Schelling and Joseph Musso combined for eight saves for Staten Island.
