WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) scored her second game-winning goal of the week and fourth of the season to help lead the 16
th-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (13-1-1, 11-1-1) to a 2-0 victory over Shippensburg (4-9-3, 2-9-2) on Senior Day in West Chester on Saturday.
Prior to Saturday's game, West Chester honored its senior class, which included
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove), Brielle Zink (Islip, N.Y./Islip), Carley Slavin (Abington, Pa./Abington), Kate Alexander (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), Maddie Mosier (Hockessin, Del./Padua), Ryder, and
Lauren Reimold (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East).
Ryder's fifth goal of the season came in the 26
th minute when she took a shot from the top of the box off an assist from
Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) after the ball was played around in the box following a save on a shot by Ryder and a blocked chance by Barber moments earlier.
After carrying a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, West Chester added an insurance goal in the 81
st minute when Barber added a goal of her own, settling a bouncing ball as it came out of the box and blasting it past a leaping Kirstin Brown to give West Chester a 2-0 lead with under 10 minutes to play.
West Chester finished the game with a 28-3 lead in shots, a 12-0 lead in shots on goal, and a 7-0 lead in corners.
Keen wasn't asked to make a save Saturday afternoon but did an excellent job directing traffic as she picked up her 55
th career win and 35
th career shutout. Keen's 55
th win moves her into solo second place on the career wins chart, while her 35
th shutout matches Alex Srolis (2013-16) for first in career shutouts, a record she will have the chance to break on Wednesday in the regular-season finale against Kutztown.
