Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls to Millersville, 2-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Riding a three-game unbeaten streak, the West Chester University men's soccer team (4-4-3, 3-3-0) returned to action on Wednesday afternoon against PSAC East leader Millersville (9-2-1, 5-1-0) to begin the second half of PSAC East play on Rockwell Field. Millersville jumped out to an early two-goal lead in the first half and used this advantage to hold on for a narrow 2-1 victory over the Golden Rams.

Maksym Komperda (Whitehall, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) scored his second goal in as many games for the third time in the last four games to cut the deficit in half with just over 10 minutes to play in the match, but this was the lone goal the Golden Rams could muster in a 2-1 loss to the Marauders on Wednesday afternoon.

Millersville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, using seemingly relentless pressure in the first half to score twice in an eight-minute span, finding the back of the net in the 22nd and 29th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, West Chester outshot Millersville 6-5 overall and 5-2 in shots on goal, but the Marauders' first-half lead was enough for the PSAC East leaders to hold on for a 2-1 victory over the upset-minded Golden Rams.

Ian Alicea (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) made a play in the second half that will not show up properly in the stat sheet but certainly kept the game within reach for West Chester as he blocked a Nolan McCarty shot following a Marauder corner in the 54th minute to keep the deficit at just two.

After Komperda's 79th-minute goal, West Chester generated a flurry of late chances, including a shot by Peter Tichy (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and an ensuing corner, but the Golden Rams were unable to capitalize as the Marauders held on for the victory.

Millersville finished the match with a 16-9 lead in shots and a 5-1 lead in corners, although shots on goal were even at 6-6.

Jaden Howard (Townsend, Del./Middletown) made three saves in the setback, while Gavin Massimi made five for Millersville to slow the potent Golden Ram offense, which entered play on Wednesday outscoring teams by a 5-2 margin over its last three games.
