5 Things To Know: No. 5 West Chester Hits the Road and the Friendly Skies This Weekend

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – West Chester University's field hockey squad travels to No. 2 East Stroudsburg on Saturday before hopping on a flight for the second time this year and traveling to Missouri to take on Maryville University on Monday.

  1. West Chester and East Stroudsburg meet for the second time this year on Saturday. The Golden Rams handed the Warriors their only loss of the season so far, 2-1, in a non-league affair last month. The host Golden Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead 23 minutes into the contest. The Warriors got one back in the 34th minute, but could not find the equalizer in a tightly-contested match at Vonnie Gros Field.
  2. West Chester brings a three-game winning streak in the overall series into Saturday's game, including a win in the NCAA Tournament a year ago at Whitenight Field.
  3. West Chester and Maryville meet for the first time in each school's history. It marks a return to the "Show Me State" since it was a Division I program and was in the Atlantic 10 Conference with St. Louis University.
  4. The Golden Rams are coming off a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bloomsburg earlier in the week. It was the first time this year that West Chester has been shut out, though the Golden Rams played a very tight game with the Huskies and held a 15-7 advantage in shots and a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.
  5. Saturday marks the beginning of a very important stretch for West Chester that will see them take on No. 2 East Stroudsburg, No. 4 Shippensburg and No. 1 Kutztown in the next week and a half.
