5 Things to Know: West Chester Swimming Entertains the Defending DIII National Champions Saturday afternoon

WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University's men's and women's swimming & diving programs host New York University Saturday afternoon inside the Graham Natatorium on South Campus. The meet features the 2025-26 NCAA Division III National Champions on the women's side. It also serves as the season opener for the Violets for both the men's and women's squads.

  1. West Chester's men's and women's teams opened up their 2026-27 campaigns two weeks ago by sweeping a tri-meet with Southern Connecticut State and the University of Bridgeport. Both the men and women swept their respective meets that day.
  2. NYU's women's team hits the pool for the first time since securing the school's first national championship last March. Violets head coach Trevor Miele led the women's team to the program's first-ever NCAA Division III National Championship and University Athletic Association (UAA) title, while the men claimed a best-ever second-place national finish, last spring. A total of 94 All-America honors were notched at the 2026 NCAA Championships, with the teams won national titles in 10 events.
  3. West Chester is in search of its first win over NYU's men's team since 2016 and its first win on the women's side since 2021.
  4. West Chester got a spectacular first meet from its freshman women's class, which really impressed in their first college meet. The Golden Rams' lady divers also won both boards to help the purple & gold to the victory. Danielle Hinkson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) was a double winner bringing home first place in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200 individual medley. She was also the third swimmer in the pool on the 200 medley relay that was first place. On the diving boards, senior Alicia McHugh (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) won both the diving events while Kacey Lenz (Swarthmore, Pa./Ridley) was runner-up off both boards.
  5. West Chester's men won the diving competition with freshman Tim Daley (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) claiming wins on both boards. Michael Finlaw (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) was second right behind Daley on both boards as well. In the pool, senior Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) won both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500 free. Freshman Will Rees (York, Pa./Home schooled) won both the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke while swimming the second leg of the 200 medley relay that was also a winner.
