No. 5 West Chester Falls to No. 11 Slippery Rock, 13-12

WEST CHESTER, PAMadeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored four goals, and Lila McMahon-Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) posted five points, but visiting Slippery Rock came from behind in the fourth quarter to walk away with a 13-12 victory over host West Chester at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday.
 
West Chester (0-1) held a two goal lead with 10 minutes left in the contest. But, Slippery Rock (2-0) scored three straight times in the last half of the quarter to come back and get out of Vonnie Gros Field with a win.
 
Edinger scored all four of her goals on the afternoon in the second quarter, and McMahon-Skates notched all three of her  tallies in the third as West Chester clung to an 11-9 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
 
The Rock buckled down on defense in the second half, allowing just one goal other than McMahon-Skates' hat trick in the third. Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Hartford) had the only other tally for the home team, that coming on a free position with 10 minutes remaining.
 
Slippery Rock scored a man-down at the 8:25 mark and then on a free position at 5:11. Grace Rotter scored the game-winner while a man up with 4:41 left. Goalkeeper Ava Drath got the win in the cage in relief of Rock starter Lily Ventresca. She entered the game with five minutes left in the third quarter and her team trailing 10-8. Drath made two saves in the win.                                                                         
 
West Chester heads to Adelphi next Saturday for a non-league contest with the panthers at Motamed Field at 2 p.m. It is the beginning of a five-game road swing for the Golden Rams.
