No. 11 West Chester Defeats Assumption, 17-7

WORCESTER, MASS.Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) scored five goals and added three assists while Lila McMahon Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) added five points (1G, 4A) and scooped up five ground balls as 11th-ranked West Chester concluded a perfect unbeaten five-game road trip with a 17-7 win over Assumption University Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester (5-1) used a six-goal run at the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second quarter to break open a 3-2 contest and balloon its lead to seven (9-2). After Assumption (2-4) put an end to the six-goal outburst, the Golden Rams scored three more times before halftime, sandwiched around another tally from the Grayhounds, to take a 13-4 advantage into the break.
 
Fortune scored two of her team-high five goals during the decisive six-goal run. Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), Skates, Ava Sheeran (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Marissa Herring (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett Square) also scored.
 
Herring and Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) each finished the game with three goals. Edinger and Mia Beilhart (Shillington, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) each had a pair of goals as well while Dani Bruno (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) scored her first career goal.

Morgan Koons (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) started the game and made four saves through the first three quarters. Korrigan Sweeney (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) made three saves in the fourth quarter and only allowed one goal.
 
West Chester returns home next Wednesday for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division clash with No. 17 Kutztown at Vonnie Gros Field. Start time is 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed free of charge on the PSAC Digital Sports Network.
