LEXINGTON, N.C.- The West Chester University women's golf team fired a second round of 306, 11 strokes better than any other team in the field, to rocket from fourth to the top of the team leaderboard as the Golden Rams opened their spring season with a win at the Sapona Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. West Chester finished the Tournament with a 636 team score after carding a 330 on day one and a 306 on day two, led by
Hanna Lignell (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasium), who shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday to climb 13 spots into the top-10 and finish ninth with a two-day score of +12 (84, 72; 156). Tuesday's win marks West Chester's fifth team victory of the 2025-26 season in six team starts.
Lignell started her day with a birdie on the par-four 10
th and added another birdie on the par-five 15
th, which helped her to make the turn at +1 (37) for the round. Lignell started her back nine the same way she started her day with a birdie on the par-five first and registered par the rest of the way to finish her day with an even-par round of 72. Lignell finished the Tournament tied for eighth in the field in par-three scoring average at 3.25 (+2) and tied for second in par-five scoring average at even par for the week.
Taryn Brandt (Denton, Md./North Caroline) also birdied the par-five 15
th and par-five first to climb nine spots and finish in a tie for 13
th at +16 (84, 76, 160).
Margaux Solis (Houston, Tx./Klein) tied with Lignell for the lineup lead in birdies on Tuesday as she also birdied the par-five 15
th, along with par-five sixth, and par-four ninth to finish off the comeback with a second round of 79 as she finished 20
th overall and +18 (83, 79; 162) for the Championship. West Chester finished seven and 11 strokes clear of the two Montana St-Billings squads as they took second and third with scores of 643 and 647, respectively.
Morgan Kunze (Limerick, Pa./Spring Ford), who competed as an individual this week, led West Chester in birdies on Tuesday with four as she birdied the par-five 18
th before recording three on her final nine with birdies on the par-four second, par-five sixth, and par-three seventh to finish in a tie for 13
th at +16 (82, 78; 160) alongside Brandt. Kunze finished the week tied for first in the field in birdies with five.
Peyton Costabile of High Point held on for the Individual Championship with a two-day score of +5 (73, 76; 149).
