KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The West Chester University women's golf team shot a field-best 317 in the second round on Thursday afternoon to match Gannon atop the leaderboard with identical 36 hole scores of 629 (WCU- 312, 317 // Gannon 308, 321) heading into the third and final round of the PSAC Women's Golf Championships at Berkleigh Country Club on Friday afternoon.
Hanna Lignell (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasium) did not record a birdie in Thursday's second round but remains the highest Golden Ram on the individual leaderboard in third-place individually at +12 (76, 80; 156) for the Tournament after firing an eight-over 80 on Thursday.
Cara Murphy (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) carded the low round of any Golden Ram on Thursday with a five-over 77, including a pair of birdies on two of the three back-nine par-fives (13th and 18th). Murphy's 77 was the second-lowest round on the course on Thursday as Arianna Kaser from California (Pa.) shot the lowest round of 76 (+4) to climb from a tie for eighth with Murphy into a tie for third alongside Lignell.
Anastasia Lopes of Gannon, who shot an even-par 72 on Wednesday in the first round, remains the individual leader by three strokes over teammate Alexandria LeCureux after shooting a 79 (+7) on Thursday afternoon. Lopes turned at one-over after recording her first bogey and third of the Tournament on the par-four seventh before going on a stretch on the back nine, which saw her bogey four of the final five holes and six of the last eight, with the lone exception being a birdie on the par-four 17
th.
West Chester enters the final round first in the field in birdies with 14 and second in pars with 86 as the Golden Rams rank second in the field in par-three and par-four scoring average at 3.40 (+16) and 4.46 (+46), while continuing to lead the field in par-five scoring average at 5.28 (+11). As a team, West Chester recorded seven birdies in Thursday's second round, including two on par-fives as Murphy picked up both of her birdies on par-fives, while
Morgan Kunze (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) birdied the par-five fifth and par-five 18
th.
Individually, Murphy is first in the team field in par-five scoring average at 4.88 (-1), while Lignell is third in the field in par-four scoring average at 4.25 (+5). Murphy leads the field in birdies with five, while Sara Veara of Shepherd became the first player in the field with an eagle this week in the second round as she carded a three on the par-five fifth as part of a 10 spot climb up the leaderboard in Thursday's second round.
