Women's Golf Seventh After 36 Holes of NCAA East Regional Championships

FINDLAY, Ohio- For the first time since May 2019, the West Chester University women's golf team took to the course on Monday for the opening round of the NCAA East Regional Championships at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio. Originally scheduled to be just one 18-hole round, the Tournament announced on Sunday that it would play 36 holes on Monday, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions before rain moves in on Tuesday and Wednesday. Led by Hanna Lignell (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasium), in a tie for ninth at +10 (76,78; 154), West Chester hovered around the top-five for much of the day on Monday and is seventh on the team leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 640 (310, 330).

West Chester is just one stroke out of a tie for fifth with Ferris State and #19 UIndy and five back of a tie for fourth with McKendree (310, 325; 635)

Findlay leads on both the team and individual leaderboards with a team score of 605 (299, 306), while Ashleigh Duflo is atop the individual leaderboard at two-over (73, 73; 146).

In the first round, Lignell and Fatima Rizvi (Lucknow, India/RPS Academies) tied each fired a four-over 76 as Lignell started her Tournament with a birdie on her opening hole, the par-five 15^th, before adding another on the par-four third, while Rizvi carded her lone birdie of the day on the par-four seventh.

In the second round, Lignell shot the low round for West Chester once again with a six-over 78, including another birdie on the par-five 15^th to open her second round the same way she opened her first round before also carding birdies on the par-four third and par-four fifth.

Lignell is tied for third in the field in birdies with five through 36 holes and is also a close third in par-four scoring average at +1 (4.05), just two strokes back of Duflo and Lea Stotz of Grand Valley State.
