WEST CHESTER, PA – Fresh off a win over No. 3 East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, fifth-ranked West Chester University heads to South Carolina for two non-league showdowns on Friday and Sunday. The Golden Rams will take on fourth-ranked Newberry on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Converse University on Sunday for a 10 a.m. start.
- West Chester and Newberry met for the first time in West Chester last fall with the Wolves coming away with a 3-0 victory. Both the Golden Rams and Wolves reached the national semifinals a year ago where Newberry came away on top, 3-0, again in the semifinal matchup.
- This will be West Chester's first field hockey game in the Palmetto State in its history. The Golden Rams played Limestone five times before that school closed its doors. However, all five meetings were in West Chester. The Golden Rams are 5-2 against schools from South Carolina.
- Sunday's contest at Converse University in Spartanburg, S.C. is the first meeting between the two schools in field hockey. The start time was moved up to 10 a.m. to accommodate a flight change in West Chester's travel plans.
- Back Anna Finn (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor) is among the top goal scorers in Division II heading into the weekend. She scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season on Tuesday against ESU in what proved to be the game-winning tally.
- Friday's match with Newberry marks the fourth contest this year for West Chester against a nationally ranked opponent. The Golden Rams are 3-0 in the other encounters this fall.
